Oil tempering process is the term commonly used in the wire industry to designate a type of wire which receives a hardening and tempering treatment after it has been drawn to the desired size. The term is in fact incorrect as the process consists of a heating above the critical temperature, one oil quenching and one reheating or tempering (usually in lead) to relieve the quench hardness obtained. Nowhere in the sequence is oil to be found as the tempering medium. This type of wire is recognized by the spring makers because of its combination of excellent elastic properties and good toughness.

Production Process

The product can be provided with both the shaved and the unshaved process. Pickling - shaving - drawing - oil quenching and tempering - quality inspection and storage The oil tempered spring wire is produced with technology of Austenite induction heating with Eddy current detector on line for defects without destruction. The Eddy current detector for defects features the function of recording and printing the length of the whole coil and position, number, type of the marks(defects) to guarantee the quality of final product. The production of the oil tempered spring wire is wholly controlled under PLC program.
